La Fitness Personal Trainer Requirements – Allow me to introduce you. I’m Donna S. and that’s how my fitness journey started. On January 6, 2016, I joined Weight Watchers and Curves for Women. At 198 pounds, I knew I had to take control of my life. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called polymyositis, for which I was prescribed prednisone for 4 years, my weight started to increase until it got out of control.

I embarked on this amazing journey to a healthy lifestyle. I used another weight loss program to learn how to eat healthy and by tracking what I ate my weight started to drop. However, after 7 months I realized that it was not giving me the results I really wanted. After my daughter took me to a fitness club in LA, I knew I’d get better results there.

I have to tell you that my daughter has been my biggest mentor and supporter throughout my weight loss and fitness journey. At first I was apprehensive about joining LA Fitness, but my husband and I joined forces in August 2016 when it opened here on Hollywood Road. We walked on the treadmills, rode the stationary bikes and did some machines.

Then on August 28, 2016, I had a fitness evaluation with Mary. By then my weight had dropped to 160 pounds, but I was still overweight for health reasons. My body fat percentage was 41.7%, my BMI (body mass index) was 31.3% and I could only sit on a plank for 31 seconds and on a wall for only 43 seconds. I trained with Mary every week for over a year and then once a month for six months until I decided she would teach me all the skills I need to reach my fitness goals.

On December 4, 2016, my weight was down to 120 pounds, my body fat was down to 27.5%, and my BMI was down to 22%.

I started taking classes. I started with Zumba® and added Body Works, Kickboxing, Power Circuit and Boot Camp. I have a fixed daily rhythm for every day of the week. I now go to the gym 6 days a week.

Mary used to call me the “sports sunshine”. Yes, I dress in colors and for all holidays.

It’s something that has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, I’ve taught elementary school classes for 40 years and my students have always loved colors.

I feel younger today than I did 20 years ago and I owe it all to the support, help and trust that everyone, especially my daughter, has given and continues to give me. I met a lot of people here and I have fun every day.

How Does Our Personal Trainer Stay Healthy?

Why start tomorrow when you can start today? Find the time to change something in your own life. This is one woman’s story of how she improved herself.

What would inspire you to change something? Wake up, get dressed and walk through the doors of an LA Fitness determined to change your life – what does it take? For Kyleen S. of Wyoming, MN, it was a series of unfortunate events that brought her to this moment. This is her story.

In 2015, Kyleen’s mother passed away. A year later, Kyleen and her then-boyfriend decided to call it quits. Between the stresses of life and a busy schedule, fitness wasn’t a priority for Kyleen. She had a gym membership, but never used it. She was tired of being overweight and unhappy. She wanted her life back. Kyleen’s best friend, Crystal S., and her husband, Matt S., were both longtime members of LA Fitness, which helped Kyleen transition from her previous gym. She hoped joining a gym that her friends belonged to would help her stay involved.

After making a commitment to make a healthy lifestyle change, Kyleen took a tour of her local LA Fitness and signed up for an annual membership that same day. The club’s fitness director, Ramon N., spoke to Kyleen about how LA Fitness’ workout programs differ from other gyms. Ramon shared with Kyleen that he would occasionally review personal training progress books to see if improvements were being made with clients and if not, he would work with his trainers to see how he could help. Ramon even took it a step further, sharing that if the interns stopped showing up, he would call or text them to see what was going on. He wanted to help hold them accountable so they could achieve their fitness goals.

Helping Others Better Themselves

Kyleen shared that she needed this and 100% appreciated it. Ramon then showed her around the club and began her free fitness assessment. Kyleen knew she was out of shape, but until her fitness exam she had no idea how bad her health had gotten! She remembered being on the treadmill for barely 30 seconds and thought she was going to pass out. Her stamina was incredibly low and she struggled to complete the simplest of tasks. Part of her wanted to turn around, walk straight out the door, and never look back. However, she knew this was something she had to do. She needed to regain control of her health.

After the fitness assessment was over, Kyleen decided it was in her best interest to enroll in personal training. She needed the support of a trainer to help her take responsibility for meeting her fitness goals. She started with two workouts a week. Kyleen shared the following about her experience signing up for personal training:

[Ramon] didn’t pressure me or make me uncomfortable in any way. I am very grateful to [Ramon] for taking the time to look after me, because I do believe I [Ramon] thought to myself:

. He really cares. I still talk to him regularly about my workout routine and life in general. He genuinely cares about this program and everyone he enrolls.

La Fitness Pro Results®

Kyleen has only missed two of her workouts so far. The first because her appendix burst, the second when she was seriously ill. Otherwise, she makes it a point to stick to her schedule. Of course there are days when she doesn’t want to go, but she goes anyway. She doesn’t want to slide back. Another reason why Kyleen keeps pushing herself is because her mom had a lot of medical issues and she doesn’t want to go through what her mom had to go through.

When Kyleen started her fitness journey, she had no intention of changing her diet. However, the more she started exercising, the more she started to eat more fish, salads and fruit than before. She shared that she is now doing everything she can to shop for healthier meals. She has also increased her water intake. Kyleen has continued to lose weight with a trainer, regular gym workouts, a healthy diet, and track her progress — even after transitioning to a desk job over the past year.

It’s a well-known fact that sitting too much can be detrimental to one’s physical health, and knowing this, Kyleen keeps 3 and 5 pound dumbbells on her desk to use as both a paperweight and a quick wrist-strengthening workout. There’s a yoga mat under her desk, ready to go as soon as Kyleen gets there. She tries to go to the gym 3 to 5 days a week. On the days when she doesn’t go to the gym, she now misses it! Since joining LA Fitness, Kyleen has said she is 180 years old in fitness, health and nutrition from where she was a year ago.

For the past year, Kyleen has made everything about her. By focusing on her health and happiness, she has seen the difference focus and determination can make on the body, both physically and mentally. When asked how the gym has affected her life, Kyleen shared the following:
