What’s The Difference?
The maximum age to join the army as an enlisted soldier is 35, and officers must receive their commission before the age of 31. However, the military may waive certain restrictions based on the need to perform certain roles. If you retire at age 55 with 20 years of military service, you may be eligible for an age exemption.

For both soldiers and commissioned officers, you must meet the age, sex, height, and weight requirements before joining. Recruits will work with you to meet the physical requirements of the military occupational specialty (MOS) to which you are assigned.
The Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) assesses your physical and mental abilities from basic training for enlisted men to basic training for commissioned officers. Everyone must take the ACFT during training and several times a year for each year of service. Recorded twice a year for active duty military and once a year for members of the Army and National Guard. The Army supports your growth with resources at each assessment stage to ensure your success.
