Over a four-year period (2012-2016), 35 percent of officers who applied for BUD/S came from the Naval Academy; 25 percent of OCS; 23 percent of lateral transfer; and 17 percent NROTC.
Statistics also show that the BUD/S pathway for officers plays an important role in their chances of graduation. 89 percent of the above officers graduated from the Naval Academy; 63 percent for additional transfers; 52 percent for OCS; and 42 percent for NROTC.

However, physical ability is not the only indicator of a good officer or someone’s ability to make it through SEAL training.
